5 Tips for Making This Your Best Year of School Yet!

It’s summer, but the school year will be here before we know it! While it’s easy to spend the summer relaxing and not worrying about school, there are a few easy ways you can get ready for the new year to make sure it’s your best yet!

Commit to Working Hard

Make a commitment to yourself to work hard in each of your classes this school year. Give yourself goals and reward yourself each time you meet one. For example, if you commit to earning a B or better on every math test, treat yourself to something when you do (it can be as simple as a night out at the movies or a favorite dessert).

Write down these goals and put them somewhere you can see them – this will help motivate you when you want to skip studying. This list can go anywhere, from your desk to your fridge. At the end of the semester, if you meet all your goals, talk to your family or friends about what you can do to celebrate your achievements!

Stay Organized

Download a phone app or get a planner you will love to use throughout the school year. Use it to help you keep track of homework assignments, upcoming tests, and any projects.

Make school a top priority this year by blocking out spaces of time to work on homework and saying no to other events that get in the way of studying. Just make sure to also block out chunks of time to relax and unwind as well so you don’t burn out!

Keep a Positive Attitude All Year Long

Ever heard the saying “fake it ‘til you make it”? Even if you’re feeling down about another school year, tell yourself it’s going to be great and commit to it. The more positive you are about what you’re doing, the more positive your experiences will be. What you put out into the universe often comes back to you – so put out positivity and watch as you enjoy your classes in a way you never thought you could before!

Find Helpful Resources Now

Kick off the new school year by exploring resources that are available to you if you need extra help in any of your classes. For example, does your school offer tutoring if you need help in a certain subject? Find out where you can go if you need help now, so you’re not left feeling alone if/when the time comes.

On that note, don’t be afraid to ask for help! We ALL need help at one time or another in order to succeed. This not only applies to help at school – this also applies to getting help from friends and family in times of stress, like when a test is coming up or a big project is due. Get a support system in place now so you’re prepared for success this fall.

Explore Options That Work for You

A traditional high school setting isn’t the right environment for everyone. And, thanks to the Internet and continuing developments in technology, it’s easier than ever to earn a high school diploma by taking classes online. This format works better for many students who don’t thrive in a traditional setting or who are not ready to return to the traditional classroom.
